Tangerine Confectionery, one of Europees largest sugar confectionery companies, has appointed Robert Whitefield as non-executive director.
Robert, who is the former chairman of Jameson’s Chocolates, brings immense experience to the Blackpool-based firm. He has been an important figure in the confectionery industry since the 1960s, and his book Making Chocolates in the Factory is regarded as the definitive work on the subject. He has worked as a consultant to confectionery companies all over the world, and is currently a non-executive director of Magna Specialist Confectioners, the UKs largest manufacturer of Easter Eggs, and a trading partner of Tangerine.
Robert joins Tangerine at a crucial point in the company’s history. The firm’s 58 million acquisition of Monkhill Confectionery from Cadbury Schweppes in February this year created a confectionery powerhouse, with 1500 people, seven sites and some of the most famous sweet brands in the UK.
The company’s product portfolio now includes Butterkist popcorn, Barratt Sherbet Fountains, Lion gums, Princess Marshmallows, Taveners traditional sweets and MOJO chews.
Robert said: This is a very exciting time to be joining Tangerine. The company is now firmly placed as one of the leading names in confectionery, boasting hundreds of years of combined manufacturing experience, and some of the nation’s best-loved brands. After several years as a consultant to the company, I now look forward with enthusiasm to joining the team, with the object of helping Tangerine to make further progress.”
Tangerine chairman Steven Joseph said: Robert’s knowledge of the confectionery industry and his passion for the development and manufacture of quality products will be of immense value to Tangerine. We’re thrilled to have him on board..
