Confectionery crazy Jade Taylor has let her love of marshmallows go to her head.
The 19-year-old from Oldham has commissioned an extraordinary edible hatt made entirely from Princess Marshmallows which she wore whilst attending Ladies Day at Royal Ascot (today 18 June).
The metre-wide hat was specially created for Jade by Leeds-based award-winning milliner Maggz Bennett and features over 1,000 traditionally made pink and white marshmallows.
Jade said “I am mad on marshmallows! I eat them every day. When I was thinking about what hat to wear this Ladies Day I really wanted something which was unique to me so I thought a marshmallow hat would be just the ticket! Maggz has created such a beautiful hat – and Princess Marshmallows has kindly donated the thousand sweets needed to put on the top.”
She added “I’ve told my friends that if I back a winner I really will eat my hat, which will of course be a real pleasure.”
Milliner Maggz Bennett, who owns company Hats by Billy said “It was great to get the call from Jade. Her commission is the most unusual I have ever worked on. I had to start by designing and crafting a hat that would be strong enough to support so many marshmallows. Each marshmallow had to be glued on individually by hand which took nearly three weeks to do! It was a painstaking process but I am so delighted with the result.”
Heather Jones, from Princess Marshmallows said “We were tickled pink to receive the request for product to decorate the hat. Our regally named Princess Marshmallows are the best quality. They’re definitely fit for royalty attending Ladies Day. We invite race-goers to indulge in our guilt-free treat and take a bag of soft and fluffy mallows with them to see them through the day.”
Princess Marshmallows are fat-free, contain 26 kcal per sweet, include only natural colours and flavours, have no added salt and no hydrogenated fats. They are available from Waitrose, Morrisons, Co-op, Tesco and independent shops.
Princess is the highest quality of marshmallow. Independent market research and blind taste tests have both identified a strong preference for this uniquely starch deposited marshmallow. The product is made in Liverpool, UK by Tangerine Confectionery.
